This World Continence Week, Clinell Contiplan 3-in-1 Cream Cloths introduce expanded clinical indications and structured care pathways to support consistent, evidence-based continence care. Incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD) remains a prevalent and challenging complication in both acute and aged care settings, impacting comfort, increasing infection risks and placing additional demands on care teams.¹˒²
Clinell Contiplan 3-in-1 Cream Cloths expanded indications
Clinell Contiplan 3-in-1 Cream Cloths offer a simplified, evidence-based solution for the prevention and management of incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD). Designed to cleanse, moisturise and protect in one single step, they eliminate the need for multiple products, helping streamline clinical routines. Powered by Advanced Barrier Protection (ABP™) Technology, each cloth delivers multi-layered defence through:
- Humectants
- Emollients
- Protective lipids
- Occlusive barrier

Each cream-infused cloth ensures consistent application for optimal hydration and barrier protection. The pH-balanced, gentle formulation makes Clinell Contiplan 3-in-1 Cream Cloths suitable for use on intact, broken or damaged skin across all age groups, including neonates*.
Continence care pathways
Clinell Contiplan continence care pathways are structured, evidence-based frameworks that guide healthcare providers in delivering consistent, high-quality care to patients experiencing IAD. As visual tools, these pathways are tailored to meet facility-specific needs and clearly define when and how to use Clinell Contiplan 3-in-1 Cream Cloths, leading to:
- Enhanced compliance & consistency: Standardised care improves adherence to best practices
- Improved outcomes: Supports skin integrity and prevents IAD-related complications
- Reduced misuse: Clear guidelines reduce the risk of product misapplication

Proven outcomes in continence care
Case Study 1: Sanctuary Care – Improved Skin Integrity in Elderly Residents3
An observational study in a UK long-term care setting assessed the impact of Clinell Contiplan 3-in-1 Cream Cloths on skin integrity and care efficiency among residents with IAD. The findings demonstrated:
- 55% improvement in skin integrity within five days, with skin assessment scores decreasing from 110 to 50, demonstrating effective IAD management. The skin assessment scoring tool was a GAMA Healthcare scoring tool, created in conjunction with Sanctuary Care
- Care episodes significantly shortened, with time reduced from 16.4 to 5.8 minutes, representing a 65% reduction in time required per procedure
- Reduction in product usage, with the number of wipes per episode dropping from six to two and total product use falling from four to one, leading to 40% cost savings and improved sustainability

Case Study 2: East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust – Reduction in IAD Prevalence4
A quasi-experimental observational study conducted in a UK hospital assessed the effectiveness of Clinell Contiplan 3-in-1 Cream Cloths in reducing hospital-acquired IAD rates and improving workflow efficiency.
Key findings included:
- 31% reduction in IAD incidence, with cases decreasing from 8.7 to 6 per month across five wards
- More than 60% reduction in care time, with incontinence care time decreasing from 17.76 minutes pre-intervention to 6.4 minutes post-intervention
- Substantial improvement in patient comfort:
- Pre-intervention: 46% of patients reported comfort, 37% experienced discomfort and 17% reported pain or slight pain
- Post-intervention: 96% of patients reported comfort, with only 4% experiencing discomfort
Additionally, 100% of staff surveyed found the wipes to be patient-friendly, easy to use and preferred over traditional cleansing methods.

Case Study 3: Western Australia – Managing Chronic IAD in a High-Risk Patient5
An 81-year-old female patient with multiple comorbidities and sensitivities to wound care products had a Stage 2 IAD-related pressure injury that persisted for 1260 days. Despite conventional treatments, the condition remained unresolved.
Following the introduction of Clinell Contiplan 3-in-1 Cream Cloths as part of a comprehensive skin care regimen, which included removal of the indwelling catheter and regular toileting, results showed:
- Complete wound closure within 73 days, demonstrating effective skin barrier restoration
- Marked improvement in quality of life, with increased social engagement, participation in activities and communal dining
- Operational efficiency gains, as caregivers reported simplified skin care procedures with the single-step intervention

Clinical implications and future considerations
The findings from these case studies reinforce the clinical efficacy of Clinell Contiplan 3-in-1 Cream Cloths, particularly in complex care environments. The demonstrated reduction in IAD prevalence, enhanced patient comfort and streamlined caregiver workflows highlight their role as a valuable intervention in both acute and long-term care settings. These clinical findings demonstrate significant improvements in skin integrity, patient comfort, care efficiency and enhanced workflow in various healthcare settings.
