Company News

Earlier this week, we caught up with our new Clinical Director for Capital, Gary Thirkell, to find out more about his role, what he’s most looking forward to this year and how he’s been settling into GAMA so far.

What’s your role at GAMA?

I’m the new Clinical Director encompassing the Capital range of GAMA products which are tangible, tested solutions to infection prevention and control challenges.

Where were you before GAMA?

I have enjoyed a 41 year career in the NHS, my clinical background is primarily in trauma and orthopaedics, with the last 18 years in infection prevention and control (IPC). My most recent experience was leading the infection prevention team in a specialist oncology hospital.

Why GAMA?

For me, GAMA’s core values in terms of innovation, and a drive to provide solutions to challenges healthcare staff face within IPC, dovetails very much with my personal ideology of improving patient outcomes and delivering quality care. I have used GAMA products in clinical practice and have always been impressed not just with the quality of the product, but with the collaborative approach to working with frontline users.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

Establishing and developing myself within the company and conquering any challenges faced working in the commercial world after a lifetime of public service.

Highlight so far?

The welcome I have received from all staff has shown the values of the company are embedded within the culture. Our recent team building exercise where we built go-karts and raced each other was particularly memorable!

GAMA’s Clinical & Scientific Director, Dr. Phillip Norville shares what value Gary will be bringing to the Clinical team and how he’ll be supporting him in his new role.

What does Gary bring to the team?

Gary brings a wealth of NHS and IPC knowledge and experience to GAMA, particularly his time working cross functionally with other departments such as estates and facilities. This experience will bring invaluable insight to GAMA’s capital category, supporting current products like Rediair, as well as focusing on future innovations and IPC solutions.

How will you be supporting Gary in his new role?

Gary’s first few weeks have focused on introductions to key members of the team and getting to know GAMA. This has involved hands-on demonstrations with product managers showcasing products like Rediroom and Rediair as well as a visit to GAMA’s Research and Development centre in Halifax, to gain an insight into our product development and innovation.
