What are Clinell Biodegradable Hand & Surface Wipes?
Clinell Biodegradable Hand & Surface Wipes are plastic-free cleaning and disinfection wipes for everyday use on hands and surfaces.
What does biodegradable mean?
Biodegradability describes the suitability of a product or its packaging for biological degradation by living organisms (bacteria) or their enzymes to substances like water, carbon dioxide, methane, mineral salts and biomass. Clinell Biodegradable Hand & Surface Wipes are proven to biodegrade in active landfill conditions, in accordance with ASTM D5511-18 standards. Tested and verified by an accredited, third-party laboratory according to international standard ASTM D5511. Clinell Biodegradable Hand & Surface Wipes biodegrade under simulated landfill conditions (anaerobic).
Are Clinell Biodegradable Hand & Surface Wipes effective against COVID-19?
Clinell Biodegradable Hand & Surface Wipes kill 99.99% of bacteria and viruses*. Clinell Universal Wipes have been proven effective against the exact strain of coronavirus that causes COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) in 30 seconds. They've been tested according to the EN14476 test method by an accredited, third-party laboratory. Clinell Biodegradable Hand & Surface Wipes are based on a very similar formulation and are proven effective against 99.99% of viruses within 30 seconds. The regulations surrounding hand hygiene products and surface hygiene products are each a little different. For surface disinfectant products, like Clinell Universal, we’re able to get our products tested against individual organisms and share those results publicly. For non-medicinal hand hygiene products (like Clinell Biodegradable Hand & Surface Wipes), the MHRA (the agency that regulates medicines and healthcare products in the UK) allows manufacturers to make ‘generic’ claims about how effective they are against different microorganisms. That means that we can’t publicly share data for any individual virus, but we can confirm that Clinell Biodegradable Hand & Surface Wipes are effective against 99.99% of viruses. *Effective against all enveloped viruses and limited non-enveloped viruses.
What are the benefits of plastic-free wipes?

Why aren’t all Clinell Wipes plastic-free?
Wipes made of entirely natural fibres can trap the disinfectant inside the wipe itself. That means, when you use them on a surface, you don’t expose germs to the right concentration of disinfectant. By adding some synthetic fibres, we make sure we deliver a killing dose. Clinell Biodegradable Hand & Surface Wipes use our latest wipe substrate technology. That allows them to release an effective disinfectant without needing plastic fibres.
